A Puck In The Gut

A big “Oops” to The Tampa Tribune. Tuesday, after the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup Monday night, the paper printed an editorial lamenting the fact that the Lightening lost the Stanley Cup.

“We took a puck in the gut Tuesday morning,” Tribune Editorial Page Editor Rosemary Goudreau said.

They had two editorials, one for win and one for lose, you see, and then they took the section up two pages, and then … well, all 275,000 copies of the paper featured the wrong editorial.

No employees will be reprimanded, Tribune publisher Gil Thelen said.

“There is no villain in all this, other than we stretched too far,” Thelen told The St. Petersburg Times.

The Times sympathized it it’s story.

“It can happen,” said Times managing editor Neil Brown. “We just kind of keep our head down and hope it doesn’t happen here.”
