A Recession for J-School Grads

StaffNews

The annual survey of journalism graduates by the James M. Cox Jr. Center for International Mass Communication Training and Research at the University of Georgia also found that:

  • The level of unemployment for journalism school grads was higher than that in the labor force in general and for all others in the 20-24-year-old range specifically.
  • Benefits for j-school grads continued to decline. More than 20 percent of those will full time jobs reported having no basic medical plan.
  • The median salary for newly minted bachelor’s degree holders was $26,000 and has not changed for three years.
