According to Reuters’ Martha Graybow, Knight Ridder is considering the launch of tab-sized editions of its papers to boost readership.
“We think that a tabloid size has a lot of appeal and there’s a track record in various places that indicates that really works and can boost circulation,” KR Chief Executive Tony Ridder said in a conference call with financial types Wednesday.
The company also is considering launching a free daily paper for commuters.
“The free tabloid trend also is gaining in popularity. These papers typically are packed with short articles for commuters who only have a few minutes in the morning to scan the news,” the story says.
Seems to us that a five-graph story on Social Security reform in a tab-sized, give-away paper would be worth just about what you would pay for it.
