The federal Department of Education released a mountain of data, without any public announcement, that shows that charger school students nationwide often do worse on tests than comparable students in public schools, the New York Times reports.
This hardly comes as a surprise in Florida where charter schools have been plagued by lack of oversight, mismanagement, and outright fraud.
Meanwhile, The Palm Beach Post reports that that the 1st District Court of Appeals ruled yesterday that the state’s Opportunity Scholarships violate the constitution by giving tax dollars to religious organizations.
In Florida, “private schools that accept vouchers do not have to give the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, employ certified teachers or report publicly how tax dollars are used,” the Post’s Kimberly Miller reports.
