Atlanta-based Cox Enterprises doesn’t care if Daytona Beach has “a vibrant cultural life,” a spokesman for the Davidson family, majority owners of the Daytona Beach News Journal said in response to a $13 million lawsuit over the paper’s contribution to help build a performing arts center.
“Sending the money to Atlanta is not going to help this community,” said Jon Kaney, general counsel to The News Journal Corp.
Cox Enterprises, a 47.5 percent partner in the News Journal sued the paper Monday after executives learned of the expenditure through a trade journal. The money should be reinvested in the newspaper, Cox officlals said.
