The Miami Herald’s Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Lenard Pitts, Jr., criticized the paper’s management for firing metro columnist Jim DeFede saying the decision was “the same unthinking tendency toward one-size-fits-all punishment that characterizes school principals who suspend children for bringing aspirin to school because it’s a violation of zero tolerance drug policies.”
