Campus police removed copies of the Florida International University’s student newspaper, the Beacon, from newsracks last week after the paper identified a sexual assault victim.
The victim was indentified in a report on the trial of FIU police officer Frederick Currie, who was convicted of sexually assaulting a student. The Florida law against naming victims in sexual assault cases was ruled unconstitutional by the state Supreme Court in 1994.
