Here are the top 10 internet news sites for April according to the Nielsen ratings people as reported on Cyberjournalist.net:

  • CNN – 23.4 million viewers
  • MSNBC – 21.2 million viewers
  • Yahoo! News – 20.7 million viewers
  • AOL News – 13.2 million viewers
  • Gannett Newspapers – 11.5 million viewers

  • NYTimes.com – 9.2 million viewers
  • Tribune Newspapers – 9.2 million viewers
  • IBS – 9.1 million viewers
  • USATODAY.com – 8.5 million viewers

I had to look IBS up. Turns out it is the Internet Broadcasting System – basically an advertising network for television station web sites with a heavy presence in Florida including MoreTV32.com in Tampa, Click10.com and NBC6.com in Miami, WESH.com, Local6.com, OrlandoWeather.com and WFTV.com in Orlando, TheWPBFChannel.com and News4Jax.com in Jacksonville.

Cyberjournalist.net also reports that if your newpaper has a web site, chances are four to one that it already is profitable and that its margin is probably 60 percent.

Dont sneeze at the dot-com guys in your shop. They may be paying your salary some day.
