“I’m a reporter, not a criminal,” the legendary TV newsman Mike Wallace told two New York taxi cops as he was being cuffed and searched yesterday after a confrontation over double parking.
Wallace’s limo driver had double parked while Wallace ran into Luke’s Bar in Manhattan to pick up an order of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy. Wallace returned to the car and asked what was going on when he was told two Taxi and Limousine Commission officers were questioning his driver.
One officer responded with “Don’t give me any lip,” and things went down hill from there. Wallace was booked on disorderly conduct charges and was released according to this story in the New York Daily News.
