The holidays are almost over and it’s time to plan when you’ll be partying some more … this time with a hefty helping of great journalism!
We are going to be toasting the winners of the 2023-24 Excellence in Journalism Competition on Feb. 1 at the Hilton Ocala.
In addition to spotlighting some great work, Vivienne Serret, will deliver the keynote speech. She is the Independent Florida Alligator reporter who stunned Florida with revelations about the inner workings of former UF President Ben Sasse’s office.
Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner will follow at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $75 per person and include a choice of a vegetarian entree, a pan-roasted chicken and vegetables, mustard au jus or braised short rib, rosemary polenta, short rib braising jus with vegetables.

About our featured speaker:
For our keynote speaker, we’ll hear from Vivienne Serret. Thanks to the University of Florida senior, who just won a 2024 Society of Professional Journalists Florida scholarship, Floridians across the state learned that the ex-UF President Ben Sasse spent hundreds of thousands on travel for highly paid hires who performed their jobs remotely.
Serret is the race and equity reporter at The Independent Florida Alligator.
Serret, who hails from Hialeah, was born to Cuban immigrants who came to this country in the early 1990s. After experiencing homelessness as a child, she came to Gainesville as a student at Santa Fe College to save money before enrolling at UF.
