Media Scandals

Why do we keep having these newsroom scandals – Jayson Blair, Jack Kelley and now Judith Miller?

The answer is pretty simple, really, says William Powers in an “On the Media” column in the National Journal.

“Every time a news scandal breaks, media executives bow low to the values that the profession supposedly holds dear – accuracy, fairness, and all the rest…But in our hearts, we all know it’s a different collection of values that sets the news world on fire.”

“Fairness and balance have page 17 written all over them…The gun slingers live on page 1.”
