“Every old guy in journalism likes to talk about how much better it used to be, but I think it really was better,” Dave Barry told Joe Posnanski of the Kansas City Star. “If I were just starting out, I don’t think a newspaper would take a chance on me.”

“The tendency for newspapers is to not take chances, write shorter and shorter, dumber and dumber,” Barry, the Miami Herald‘s Pulitzer-winning humor columnist, said. He is leaving his column at the end of the year and admits he might not come back.
