Daniel Williams is one. Rather, he still is one.
Gunmen in an Iraqi taxi tried their best to make him a former Washington Post reporter a few days ago.
“I guess I’ve been working for newspapers too long, but when I looked into the face of my would-be killer as he shot bursts of AK-47 fire into my SUV on the superhighway from Fallujah to Baghdad, the first thing that came to mind was the likely headline in the next day’s paper: Post Reporter Dies in Hail of Bullets,” Williams wrote.

The official reaction to a reporter and driver being machine-gunned on a major Iraqi highway came from one of two tatooed Marines playing chess at the Abu Ghraib prison where Williams sought safety.
“A lot of that goes on out there,” said said the shirtless Marine as he considered his next move. “Check.”
And, yes, the occupation is going just dandy, thank you.
